Mary Douglas Gordon Long (nee Morson) left this life on November 20, 2018. Born on November 7, 1915, in the District of Calton, Burgh of Glasgow, Mary's lifelong passion was being on or near the water. It was during a day sail in the waters near her hometown that she met her future husband Geoff Long, a Captain in the Merchant Navy.
As a young lady Mary attended the London School of Economics, but her studies came to a halt after the war broke-out. She contributed to the war effort by driving ambulance and nursing injured soldiers.
After the war Mary and Geoff moved to Canada, and she enjoyed telling the story of how she and her husband, along with their infant daughter, flew to Canada aboard Winston Churchill's private aircraft.
She and Geoff raised their children in Montreal where their lives were filled with the adventures of daughters Una, Carin, Marlyn, and their son David.
Mary lived many years in the Schooner Cove, Nanoose area where she was kept busy with her other life-long passion - dogs! She had such a love affair for dogs, and the stories she could tell. A few days before her passing she was visited by her son David and his dog Jack where the care home staff and residents always loved to see them.
She was blessed to have lived such a long, rich, and healthy life, and on a warm summer day when the winds are fair Mary will be spread at sea, aboard Julienna, with all her grandchildren present.
