COSTIN, Mary Isabelle
Passed away at the Bastion Place Nursing Home in Salmon Arm, Sunday, May 17, 2009 in her 93rd year.
Mary was born in Chauvin, Alberta on February 17, 1916. She was the youngest of six children born to Thomas Lewis and Barbara Smith Lewis. Her five siblings: Baby Lewis, Kathleen Saunders, Lillian Wieb, George Lewis, and Earnest Lewis all predeceased her. Mary moved from Saskatchewan in the early 1950's and lived in Ladysmith and Chemainus, BC.
Mary had three children by her first husband Earl Devitt: Marjorie Isabelle, Ronald Clare, and Allison Emma. All three children predeceased her. Mary married Albert Costin in 1956 and they made their home briefly in Ladysmith and then spent the rest of their time together in Chemainus. Mary and Albert were avid gardeners and also spent many happy times camping near Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island. Albert passed away in 1988. After Albert's passing she stayed in their home in Chemainus and had many adventures with her pal, Mavis. Mary moved to Salmon Arm in 2007 to be near her grandson, Randy Ferguson. Mary is survived by two stepchildren - June and Ted, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
She will be cremated and no funeral services will be held. In memory of Mary, a donation can be made to the charity of your choice.
