MARJORIE CONSTANCE RICE

October 31, 2008

Marjorie Constance Rice

On Friday October 31, 2008 Marjorie passed away peacefully in her sleep, to be reunited with her loving husband, Godfrey.

Marjorie was born on April 23, 1909 in New Westminster, B.C. In her early teens, while growing up on her parent’s farm on Lulu Island, Marjorie developed an interest in carving. This love of art continued on throughout her life. She married her lifelong love, Godfrey on June 1, 1940 and they spent over 60 years enriching each other’s lives.

Marjorie’s distinguished accomplishments as an artist started with her many sculptures and wood carvings; and progressed when her enjoyment of sketching and painting led to her attending the Banff School of Fine Arts. Her innate talents produced a wide range of works that would be displayed at numerous exhibitions over the years. Some of these were to come from the many scenes that she sketched, while accompanying Godfrey overseas to places in the Far East; and others from local land or seascapes. Many colourful stories were also told to friends, to accompany the many beautiful paintings. Marjorie and Godfrey made Lantzville their retirement home, where Marjorie continued to paint.

Special thanks to the staff at Nanaimo Senior’s Village for their compassion shown to Marjorie. Also thanks to Dr. David Stronge for his care and friendship over the years. No service by request.
