Bickerton, Margaret Yvonne

It is with great sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of our dear mother, Margaret Yvonne Bickerton, on February 12th, 2010 at the home of her daughter Shirley Mitchell in Nanaimo, B.C. where she had been lovingly cared for during the past seven years. She was 96 years of age. She was predeceased by her loving husband John; son Brian and grandson Neil; four brothers: Louis, Robert, Lloyd and Edward; also sons-in-law Seth Story and Buzz Mitchell. She is survived by 5 children - daughters: Neta Story, Shirley Mitchell (partner Brian Jackson); sons: Jack (Violet), Donald (Beverly) and Keith (Joyce) and one daughter-in-law, Tierra; one sister, Jean Forster of Calgary and two sisters-in-law: Kathryn Dietrich and Jeanette Dietrich. Also left to mourn her passing are many grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She has 138 descendants.

Margaret was born on January 9, 1914 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. She met the love of her life, John Farmer Bickerton and they were married on April 7, 1930 in Radville, Saskatchewan. John and Margaret raised their family in Navan, Ontario, Rocky Mountain House and Calgary, Alberta. In 1980, after John’s passing, she moved to Nanaimo, B.C. to be with her island family. She will be missed by all who knew her for her smile, friendliness and good sense of humour.

Service was held at Trinity Catholic Church - 6234 Spartan Road, Nanaimo, B.C. at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 18th. A reception was held at Trinity Catholic Church (in the Lounge) following the services.

In lieu of flowers the family gratefully acknowledges donations to the Alzheimer Society of B.C.
