GILMOUR, Margaret Robinson 1908 ~ 2009
It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother on June 1, 2009, at age 100 at the Extended Care Unit, St Joseph’s Hospital, Comox, BC. Margaret was born in Gateshead, England and immigrated to Nanaimo, BC as a young child with her father and grandmother. She was predeceased by her mother, her husband of 71 years, Robert in 2000, brother John in 1931 and sister Annie in 2001. She is survived by her daughter Yvonne (Jim) Baker, granddaughter Diane (Chris) Gage and many nieces and nephews. Margaret worked for many years in the retail clothing business in Nanaimo at Whittingham’s & Jean Burns Ltd. She was a long time member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Harewood Fire Hall. In her retirement she enjoyed her garden, cooking desserts (specialty apple pie), reading, and Margaret always had a biscuit for Morgan (granddaughters Portuguese Water dog) when they came to visit. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. R. Helmer, the many nurses and staff for the gracious care of our Mother/Grandmother received at Casa Loma Assisted Living, Cumberland Intermediate Care Facility and the Extended Care Unit at St Joseph’s Hospital.
