Her children are sad to announce that Margaret (Pat) Smith has passed away at NRGH on Tuesday, April 17, 2018.
Margaret is predeceased by her husband Otto Berg Smith and granddaughter Sara Elizabeth Young. Survived by her children Al (Colleen), Jan (Russ), Gail (Cam) and Peter, grandchildren Chris, Jessica, Mark, Meghan (Ian), great grandchildren Mackenzie, Malcolm, Rosie and Nate and nieces Joy, Dawna, Diane and their families.
Born in Drumheller in 1924 to Scottish immigrants, she grew up playing in the hills with her brothers Bob and Bill, searching for fossils. As a young woman she trained as a secretary and worked in Calgary, then Vancouver where she met and married her husband. They eventually moved to Ontario where the four children were raised.
Upon retiring the move was made to Nanaimo. Here she formed lasting friendships with her church family and then spent 4 happy years at Highgate.
A Celebration of life will be held at Woodgrove Christian Community church, Lantzville, BC on Tuesday, April 24th at 3:00 pm.
