Rourke, Margaret Irene

September 18, 1920 ~ May 31, 2015

Margaret Irene Rourke passed away in Malaspina Gardens, Nanaimo, BC. Margaret was born in Maryfield, SK the youngest of 8 children born to William John & Elizabeth Joyce (Barwise) Rourke. Margaret took her schooling in Maryfield graduating from grade 12. Margaret took piano lessons attaining grade six and played a trumpet in a marching band for several years.

Margaret moved to Dryden, ON in 1941 and worked in the laundry at the hospital and later at the Central Hotel laundry. Margaret’s parents moved to Dryden in 1943 where they opened Just-Rite Shoe Repair and Margaret went to work with her father learning the shoemaking trade from him. The Shoe Repair shop was sold in 1953, at this time Margaret worked in the office of Cadario’s 5 & Dime store until 1956 when she moved to New Westminster, BC where she worked in the shoe repair department at Woodward’s until poor health required her to retire.

Margaret moved to Nanaimo, BC in 1973. She enjoyed the fruit trees at her new home and would share the harvest with her neighbors. Margaret was a life member of #4 BCOAPO.

Margaret was predeceased by her brothers Bill, Ted, Harold, Ernie & George Rourke, her sister Grace Adair and an infant sister Joyce, sisters-in-law Francis, Margaret & Cecilia Rourke and brother-in-law Bob Adair. Several nieces and nephews and their families survive Margaret.

No service by request. Cremation. Burial early July 2015 in Maryfield, SK with the service from the Anglican Prayer Book.
