In loving memory ~
Margaret Elizabeth (Betty) Albertson was born on February 12, 1930 to Jack and Margaret Albertson. Betty grew up in Vancouver and graduated from Burnaby South Secondary. She met Ralph Kelm at the roller rink, and they were married in 1951. Together they built a home in Richmond where they raised six children.
Betty was a busy mom and volunteered in community organizations like the PTA and the Heart Foundation, as well as working part time. The family enjoyed many summers at the beach in Point Roberts and in the Cariboo. Betty was most happy when surrounded by people; there was always a steady flow of family and friends through the Kelm household.
She was the family's best fan at baseball and basketball games, and in later years she loved to hold a grandchild on her lap to show them how to plunk out tunes on the keyboard. In 1993 Betty and Ralph retired to Nanaimo where she loved views of the ocean and Mt Benson. They became good friends with neighbors and members of the Hearts in Motion Walking Club, often hosting card games and potlucks at their home.
While living at Origin at Longwood for the past 10 years, Betty continued to play the keyboard and became a musical fixture at social activities. She cherished the friendships made there with residents and staff.
Betty is survived by her husband, Ralph, and her children: Karen, Andrew, Lori (Doug, Scott, Eryn), Nancy, Wendy, and Peggi (Dave, Adam, Ryan).
She will be greatly missed by friends and family alike.
