It is with heavy hearts the family announces the passing of Margaret, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Margaret was the only child of Arthur and Joan Jan, born in Winnipeg Manitoba. The family moved to Nanaimo in 1945 where she graduated from John Shaw High School in 1948 and later married her high school sweetheart Ken (Lefty) Best in 1952. She then retired from her secretarial job at Northwest Bay and the next year they started their family.
Margaret was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Joan and is survived by her husband of 67 years Ken (Lefty) daughters Joanne (Bruce), Shelley (Martin) son Kenny (Audrey) grandchildren Calie, Tyler, Beaudry, Shaun and Clayton and great granddaughter Cynthia.
Family gatherings were her favourite time of all, especially Christmas; she cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great granddaughter; she loved her walks along the waterfront. She enjoyed her lunches and outings with her gal pals; going to the movies and Chemainus theater; Broadway shows and shopping, oh she could shop. She was a fan of the Young and the Restless since the day it first aired. And we cannot forget the love she had for her special friend-her cat Mushroom.
Margaret became a member of Beta Sigma Phi in 1948 and received her 70 year pin last year, she was a long time member of Nanaimo Curling Club and she did her fair share of golfing at a variety of courses.
We would like to say a special thank you to Chartwell Malaspina, Dr. Kerridge and especially the staff of the Hummingbird neighborhood (2nd floor) for the care and compassion they gave to her during her stay... you will be forever in our hearts.
No service by request, in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation.
