Lloyd Charles Fowler of Nanaimo passed away on April 26, 2021 at the age of 95.
Predeceased by the love of his life Gloria Estelle Fowler (nee Myles) in 2017. Lloyd leaves behind his children: Don in Nanaimo, Karen Plett of Ladner, Kenneth in Chase River and David in Port Coquitlam, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Predeceased by his mother Edith (Davy) and Father Leo, long time Cedar residents.
Born into a large family of stubble jumpers in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan in 1925, Lloyd outlived his 5 siblings and just about everyone else. Leo and Uncle Alf moved the family to Cedar in 1941 leasing farmland on Quennell Lake.
As a teenager Lloyd started his working career pole logging until a back injury forced a career change. He spent many years with the BC Ministry of Highways as an equipment operator and ending his 'official' working career early at age 55 as a surveyor for the department of ruts, bumps, and potholes.
It was a good life and a life well lived. Lloyd enjoyed sports, playing hardball and later badminton at Cedar Hall. The outdoors brought him great pleasure, angling for the then plentiful Chinook and Coho Salmon and annual Fall hunting trips to the north. Father took tremendous pride in his home and boat building skills.
There wasn't much he could not do; he was excellent with both his hands and mind. After retirement he enjoyed travelling with Gloria, visiting the grandchildren, a fun game of bridge, and the Nanaimo Coffee Club.
There is one cute story of Lloyd and a younger brother on the Quennell Lake Farm spending an hour on hands and knees in the mud sneaking up on a flock of ducks that turned out to be Ernie (hardware) Johnson's decoys. No ducks were harmed. Laughter ensued. Those were the days.
Gone now to find Gloria. Lloyd is loved by many and will never be forgotten.>/i>
No service as was his wish.
