Corbin, Leslie George

Dec. 21, 1919 - Dec. 4, 2005

Les passed away quietly at home sitting in his easy chair after having had a great Saturday afternoon with his friends at the Lantzville Legion. Predeceased by hiw wife, Ruth, in 1983, Les is survived by his four children, Deb (Hal) Wold, Falkland, B.C., Jim (Kit) Corbin, Nanaimo, Carey (Tim) Struch, Nanaimo, and Pamela (Ken) Jamieson, Salmon Arm. Les has 11 special grandchildren, Jason (Allison) Winkler, Steve (Greta) Winkler, Ryan Winkler, Darcy Corbin, Amy Corbin, Kelsie Struch, Aaron Struch (Dominique Veraart), Meghan Struch (Warren Zannet), Hannah Jamieson (Cody Spencer), Grant Jamieson and Nash Jamieson. Two wonderful great grandchildren gave Les real delight; Shelby and Dylan Winkler. The last several years Les was very happy with his dear companion, Gladys Corbin who was always by his side. Les proudly served in WWII overseas with the 60th Field Battery Royal Canadian Artillery and shared many detailed stories of his duties with his children and grandchildren. Les was employed at Harmac from its construction until his retirement in 1979. In his later years Les loved to drive to Saskatchewan and take Alaskan cruises with Gladys and family members. He thoroughly enjoyed his Saturday afternoons at the Legion with their close friends and always looked forward to selling Remembrance Day poppies in the mall. Oh and he loved his Veteran's license plate! Les' family was of tremendous pride to him and he loved the time he spent with them or hearing about those who lived out of town and he couldn't see as often. He was a great "Gramps" and had a sense of humour we all enjoyed. He will be missed so much. A memorial service for Les will be held on Friday, December 9th at 2:30 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, Lantzville Branch #257. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Les can be made to Lantzville Branch #257 Legion Scholarship Fund or the Pediatric Ward at Nanaimo Hospital.
