July 13, 2014

June 5, 1917-July 13, 2014

Leona lived 97 years filled with family and friends, laughter and tears, happy times and sad times. Leona was born in Union Bay to Alfred and Catherine Lockner. She moved to the Cassidy area in 1920 and attended school at Granby and then later Waterloo. She is predeceased by her parents, her loving husband Aimo in 1973, and her sisters Eileen and Geraldine. She is survived by her two sons Alfred and wife Margaret and Ron and wife Jane, granddaughters Tammy (Donald), Cheri(John), Cindy(Sean), Leanne(Steve), Carie(Jamie) and Cathy(David), her 15 great grandchildren Cassidy, Carlee, Maria, Drayden, Keaton, Erin, Rose, Owen, Matthew, Abby, Alaina, Maggie, Celia, Nicholas, Jacob her sister Margaret Mihalech and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Leona married Aimo in September 1936, and together they raised their sons in Cassidy. After Aimo passed away in 1973 Leona worked at Chemainus Hospital in the housekeeping department.

Leona and her friend Betty enjoyed travelling the world together. Leona’s pride and joy were her six granddaughters and she loved watching them marry and start their families. She spent her final five years at Kiwanis Village making new friends and appreciating all the wonderful amenities they offered.

The family would like to express deep gratitude for the tender loving care she received in her final ten days in NGRH Palliative Care Unit. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. There will be no service by her request.
