KAUWELL, LARRY EDWIN

August 1, 1931 - September 27, 2007

Much loved and forever missed, Larry Kauwell passed away peacefully Thursday, September 27, 2007 at the age of 76 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Survived by his loving wife Veronica, sons Tony (Beth) Nick (Monique) and Pat, daughter Dierdre (Dale) and numerous grandchildren (11) and great grandchildren (7). He is survived by two sisters, Virginia and June.

Larry moved from Ames, Iowa to Vancouver Island with his young family in 1957 after spending some years in the US air force as a flight engineer. He spent most of his working years as an automotive, heavy equipment mechanic until retirement.

His passions were baseball, bowling, stock car racing, and being surrounded by his grandchildren. Throughout his life, he took great pride in being able to help anyone in need, whether it be driving a team to a sporting event or repairing a friend's vehicle.

Larry always had a great sense of humour and tended to be a bit of a prankster. He loved playing card games with his friends and family and took great pride walking away with all of his winnings!

Larry's wishes were to thank the doctors and nurses at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital and the Palliative Care Unit for the great compassion and care they showed throughout his illness.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

A celebration of Larry's life was held by family and friends at the former Elks Hall, where Larry catered many events, located at 595 Townsite Road, (currently the Unitarian Fellowship Church) on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at 11:00 am.
