Lance Makoto Yoshida

September 21, 1963 to October 16, 2013

Lance passed away peacefully at home on October 16, 2013.

Lance was born in Nanaimo and graduated from N.D.S.S. He then furthered his education and attended the University of Victoria where he earned a B.Sc. in Marine Biology. Lance then moved to Paris, France where he studied cooking at Le Cordon Bleu and worked at a number of French restaurants, hotels, and bakeries. He then returned to B.C. where he took up residence in Vancouver and worked at several of its finest restaurants. He also did several working vacations in Hawaii, Sonoma Valley, and New Orleans.

Lance was predeceased by his parents, Akira and Tokuko Yoshida, and also his little brother, Rhys. He is survived by his daughter, Catherine del Campos (Paulo) of Spain; his brother, Vernon (Brenda); his nephew, Gregory Yoshida; and niece, Morganna (Adrian) Clarkson.

Lance will be remembered for his baking skills, guitar collection, love of bourbon, and dry humour.

Special thanks to the nurses of the Nanaimo Community Dialysis Unit and his nephrologist, Dr. Gaylene Hargrove.

There will be no memorial or graveside service by request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vancouver Island Kidney Patients Association or your favourite charity.
