May 9, 1928 - March 21, 2019
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ken Barclay on 21 March 2019. Ken was born and raised in Saskatoon Saskatchewan and was the youngest of 3 children. Growing up, Ken helped his parents in their convenience store and at the age of 15 got his driver's licence and delivered groceries to their customers. At 19 years old Ken joined the R.C.M.P and although this was a short career it was one he was very proud of and looked back on with fond memories. Ken eventually hired on with International Harvester where he met and married his lifelong best friend and love, Christine. Ken stayed in the Saskatchewan automotive industry for many years. In 1957 he was District Manager for General Motors, in 1963 Truck Sales Manager for Mid- West Motors in Regina, in 1970 General Sales Manager for Crestview Chrysler and then in 1972 opened his own dealership, Burntwood Ford Sales Ltd. in Thompson Manitoba before moving west to British Columbia. While still in Thompson, Ken received the "Distinguished Dealer Award" twice, the first after being in business for only one year. Ever active in the community, Ken was a Vice President of the Thompson Chamber of Commerce and a Rotarian for 7 years. Ken finished his working career with the Corps. of Commissionaires in Vancouver, a position which he enjoyed immensely. Through good times and not so good times, Ken always maintained a calm and confident manner and never lost his unique sense of humor.

Ken was predeceased by his wife Chris in October 2018 and son Leo (Janet) in 2007. Also predeceased by his father George Herbert in 1968, mother Edna Lyle in 1972, his sister Muriel and brother Raymond. Ken is survived by daughter Lynne (Kevin).

We would like to thank the doctor, nursing staff and all care workers in the complex care unit at Nanaimo Senior Village for their wonderful care and compassion over the last 3 years. Also, a thank you to Nanaimo Senior Outreach and Dufferin Place.

A small service will be held in near future. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society, BC SPCA or charity of your choice.
