In loving memory (July 1939-October 2021) ~ How do you sum up a life well lived?
Ken was born and lived his life in Nanaimo. During his working years, he was a Chase River volunteer fireman (fought the Chinatown fire), logger, BC Ferry worker, commercial fisherman, then spent his last 32 years working at Harmac.
He coached minor soccer and softball teams with his brother Jack. Ken played many sports - soccer, hockey, lacrosse, slow pitch, drove stock cars, 10 pin bowling and golf. He also hunted in our local mountains and liked to sport fish the local waters and at Poets Nook.
He was the President of Mid-Island Scouting District for many years and mentored a Venture troupe. They affectionately called him 'Uncle Kenny'.
Summers were spent at their cabin on Horne Lake, later at a leased lot on the Qualicum River. Ken, Dona and always a dog, took many trips in their motorhome throughout Canada and the U.S.
He leaves to remember and miss him his wife Dona of 58 years, daughter Rebecca, son Douglas, grandchildren Sara (Jordon), Ashley (Mike), and Diego, great-grandson Cooper, brothers Jack (Lynnette - deceased) and Ralph (Hilary), sister-in-law Barbara (Gary), aunts, uncle, and many cousins, nieces and nephews, and his four legged friend Maggie Muggins.
Cremation has taken place. No service per Ken's request. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the local Salvation Army Eighth Street if you so desire.
