May 14, 1942 - December 4, 2018
It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Allen (Al) at the age of 76.

Allen was born on May 14, 1942 in Edmonton, Alberta. The eldest son of Harry McKenzie a commercial fisherman and Florence (Young) they soon moved to Nanaimo in 1942. Al was a self-taught man and became proficient at anything he wanted to do. This included the logging industry, automobile sales, commercial fishing (like his dad) and for the past 25 years he was a carpenter/new home finisher. When he was 17 he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy serving on the destroyer escort HMCS Assiniboine.

With his easy going manner he was well-liked and respected by all the people he met along the way and cherished by his family. Al leaves behind his beautiful mother Florence, his children: Gordon and Tara (Shane) Sampson, his beloved grandchildren Tayah, Tommy and Taylor. He also leaves behind his loving siblings, brothers Larry and Ray and baby sister Wendy (Robin) Clarke as well as an extended family of Nieces and nephews.

A very special thank-you to all the Doctors and Nurses at NRGH that took such good care of Al in the last few months while he was hospitalized.

In lieu of flowers please donate to charity of your choice. There will be no service by request.
