Aug 17, 1937 - Dec 28, 2017
Kathleen passed away peacefully in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital surrounded by her closest loved ones on December 28, 2017.
She was born in Dauphin, Manitoba, the youngest daughter of Andrew Douglas Wood and Agnes Melon Henderson Young on August 17, 1937. She was predeceased by her sisters, Maureen and Evelyn.
She is survived by her husband, David Lloyd Towns, son David Gordon Towns (Maryon), daughter Colleen Towns-Eger (Hansjoerg) and three grandchildren, Gordon, Alicia and Daniel.
After their marriage on July 8, 1961, Dave and Kathy together embraced a transient military life, spending time overseas and ultimately crisscrossing Canada several times before retiring to Nanaimo in 1988. Kathy loved touring family and friends around the Island. She continued to keep active with curling and took up lawn bowling.
As ALS made her world increasingly smaller, she became a frequent visitor of the Vancouver Island Regional Library. Kathy is remembered by all for her infectious laughter and for her outstanding entertaining and cooking skills. Memories of her graciously serving French onion soup, rolls, and her sticky buns are treasured by friends and family alike.
Thank you to Dr. Wallis who helped make it possible for Kathy to pass on her own terms. Dean and Kelly from Home and Community Care of Nanaimo offered indispensable support and information. CAYA personnel made it possible for her to continue to communicate after her own voice was taken.
Thank you to friends and family near and far who sent and continue to send their love and prayers. Special thanks to Terisa Bilton, who Kathy considered to be a second daughter, for all her guidance, support and love.
A service and Celebration of Kathy's Life was held on Wednesday, January 3rd, 2018 at 1:00 pm, Sand's Funeral Chapel, Nanaimo.
