In loving memory ~
It is with heavy hearts that we announce Katherine (Katie) Julia Rosalie Bérubé peacefully left the physical world on March 21 2025. Katie passed in her family home in Nanaimo BC. Born on February 17th 1998 in Newmarket ON, Katie recently celebrated her 27th birthday by snowboarding.
Many loved ones miss her dearly, and she is survived by: her Mother Kristen and "Filipino Father" Frank, brothers Brendan (Gabby) and Hayden, her grandparents "Nanna" Ginette and Pepere Mike (Betty), her Aunty Danielle (Alex) and Uncle Curtis (Tasha), as well as cousins Riyah and Briar in addition to all of her Valerio cousins.
Katie is also grieved by her cat Misty and best friends Brooke, Serenity, and Liam and Tianna.
Katie will be remembered for her strength and ability to stay positive despite the pain she experienced as a result of her childhood onset Crohn's Disease. Katie was determined to live a full life just like anyone else, and so she did.
Katie was creative, funny, loyal, kind, talented and had a depth of compassion that shone in all of her relationships.
Loved ones will cherish their memories of Katie as she enjoyed her life alongside them, and can rest assured they have gained a fierce guardian angel.
Katie loved snowboarding, rollerblading, camping, lobster, road trips on the island, lakes, Pipers Lagoon, travelling (France, Spain, Italy, Scotland, Ireland), snuggling her kitty, "type-rope", meals with friends and family, "morning" iced caps and spending time with her brothers.
Her amazing sense of humour will be remembered by those who were closest to her, alongside some of her spicier moments.
Katie is a beautiful soul, and the family thanks everyone for their prayers, generosity and kindness during this difficult time.
Katie's service will be on Saturday, April 19th at 11am at Sands Funeral Home in Nanaimo with a catered reception to follow.
A smaller gathering afterwards is open for family, friends, loved ones and those wanting to spend a bit of time saying goodbye to her in her room / writing her a letter at the family home.
Katies family express gratitude for being blessed to be in her life and her laughter will live forever in our hearts.
