With great sadness we announce the passing of June after a brief illness on October 27, 2017 in her 88 year.
Born in Regina, SK and raised in Nanaimo. Survived by daughter Janet Drake (Geoff) of Montmartre, SK, and daughter April Mathers (Brad) of Nanaimo. Grandchildren Tristan and Rebecca Drake, brother Lester Mitchell and sister Mabel Bestwick, nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by husband Archie and her sister Virginia.
June held many fond memories growing up along the waterfront near the Nanaimo Yacht Club. June and her life long friend Vera ventured off to work in Ocean Falls, BC where she met her husband Archie. After getting married they moved to Nanaimo in 1950 and raised their family. June and Archie had many happy summer memories in their trailer over the years with family and friends at Four All Seasons Resort in Yellowpoint.
June will be lovingly remembered by family and friends for her love of music, dancing, movies and swimming. June was well known for her flair of brightly coordinated outfits and accessories. June enjoyed and participated in many activities in her later years spent at Lakeside Gardens Retirement Home.
Special Thanks to the caring Nurses and Doctors at NRGH and the many years of caring and kindness of the Lakeside Gardens Staff.
Also a heartfelt Thank You, to Dr. Pieter Boshoff for his care and kindness over the years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Sands Funeral Home @ 1 Newcastle Ave, Nanaimo on Sunday Nov 12, 2017 @ 1:00 pm.
