Joyce ( Randerson) Fagan

August 01, 1936-December 23, 2009

Joy’s battle with cancer ended December 23 2009. Joy was predeceased by her parents; George & Joyce Randerson; her sister, Jean Althouse, and son in-law Mike Thompson. She will be sadly missed by her husband, Pat; children: Tracy, Terry (Allen), Stephen and her grandchildren Kaela and Michelle. Joy was a surrogate mother to many and had numerous extended family and friends from all over the world. Joy moved with her family from Ontario to Pleasant Valley in 1948. Her parents George & Joyce were instrumental in the development of Pleasant Valley Trailer Park, complete with the gas station, & Dots Coffee Shop. Randerson Ridge Elementary School is the legacy that represents her family. She met and married Nanaimo native Patrick Fagan in 1956 and they moved together to the Fagan’s Beach Cabin in Departure Bay in 1960 where they have remained to this day. This location was ideal for a variety of activities including many generations of water sport enthusiasts’ and bathtub racers. Since retirement Pat & Joy have enjoyed their winters with numerous friends continuing an active life style in Mesa, AZ.

Joy was proud to be a Nanaimoite and participated actively in the community. Her list of accomplishments on different boards, organizations, service clubs and sporting teams are long and memorable.

The Family would like to thank Dr. Earl Weisenberger, Angela & her team for the wonderful care they provided for Mom in her final days at home.

A church service will be held at St. Peters Catholic Church on January 8th, 2010 at 11:30 am. A gathering, to share memories and celebrate Joy’s life, will follow at Pleasant Valley Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Society would be appreciated.
