It is with great sadness that the family of Joyce Newman announces her passing on Jan 22, 2020 after a hard fought battle with cancer.
Joyce was born in the Netherlands on June 6, 1953. Just before her first birthday she immigrated to Canada with her mother Thelma Abma (nee Sieswerda) joining her father Sidney Abma in Williams Lake BC. The family lived in various other communities in BC including Vancouver, Powell River and Port Alberni where she attended high school. After completing a dental assistant program, she moved to Kamloops where she lived and worked for over 20 years before returning to the coast living most recently in Ladysmith BC.
Joyce is survived by and will be dearly missed by her mother Thelma, sons Julian (Sheena) and Travis (Cherrill), grandchildren Emily, Hannah, Lily, Stella, Allison, sisters Ingrid (Amole) and Sonja (Colin) nieces and nephew Remy (Scott), Chesa (Eric), Kurt and Katie and great niece Annika.
Her family and friends will remember her for her love of gardening, the way she helped us all to be organized, her kindness, her sense of humor and her love of laughter.
