JOHN WALTER SAMSON

June 10, 2009

JOHN WALTER SAMSON died on June 10, 2009 at Royal Jublilee Hospital in Victoria, BC. Born in 1937 in Olds, Alberta, he spent most of his adult life working, living, and cruising on sailboats. His nautical travels took him south to New Zealand, north to Alaska, and to many tropical Islands in between. His two published books The New Way of Life & How to Build a Ferro-Cement Boat inspired many to build their own boats and sail them across oceans, John is survived by his wife Pat, daughters Barbara and Christine, and grandchildren Daniel, Emily, and Tristan. In later years he confined his sailing adventures to coastal BC, accompanied by friends and family, as he struggled with kidney disease. He lived in Ladysmith and walked the Holland Creek Trail every day that he was able to do so. John will be missed by many who loved him. A memorial for him will be held in Ladysmith on the afternoon of July 18, 2009. For details about the memorial & for more about his remarkable life see the website http://sites.
