"Saying Goodbye is not letting go, it is a different way of holding on"
It is with great sadness we announce John's sudden passing aged 63.
John leaves behind his loving wife of 30 years, Susan and his beloved furry companions, Lizzy and Shadow. He will be greatly missed by his family, mother Alida, sister Cornelia (Marcus), brother Jack (Ya), stepson Dale and nephews Aaron, Niko (Summer) and
Alexander. Predeceased by his father John in 2011.
John was born in the Netherlands and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1968 at the age of 12. He enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces when he was 19 and served his country in various ways for 20 years. Peacekeeping and serving his country gave John a deep sense of pride and satisfaction. As an immigrant he came to love Canada with his whole heart and he was so proud to be called a Canadian.
His last place of work was the Nanaimo Fish and Game. He was valued and respected by all who knew him.
We will miss his big smile, his kindness, his honesty and integrity, and his teasing.
Special thanks to the RCMP, Fire Department and Parametics who came to help and support.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a Celebration of Life held on Saturday, December 7, in the Hall at the Nanaimo Fish and Game, 1325 Nanaimo Lakes Rd., 1:30 to 3:30.
