SPALJARICH, John
passed away at Malaspina Gardens on March 13, 2004. John was born in Vukmanich, Croatia, January 3, 1911. Leaving behind his parents Anna and Janko, three sisters and three brothers, John left Croatia in 1928 for Algiers where he resided for five years. He arrived in Canada in 1934, spending five years in Calgary. He came to Nanaimo in 1939 working in the mines in the Nanaimo, Northfield and Cumberland areas, and later in the logging industry in Fanny Bay. He retired to Nanaimo and was a resident of Malaspina Gardens for nineteen and a half years where he leaves behind many friends, as well as longtime friends Fred, Doris, Carmella and Fernanda Luvisotto. Deepest appreciation to Malaspina Gardens staff for providing John with a comfortable home during this time. Special thanks to Dr. Charles Lam for his care. A memorial service for John will he held at Malaspina Gardens on Thursday, March 25, 2004 at 10:30am, Father Darek Zarebski presiding.
