In Memory

'There was a rugby player named Reg

Whose nickname Gumboots, he once pledged,

Came from practicing in boots

To battle other brutes

In foul weather, it gave him an edge.'

It is with sadness and fond memories that we announce the passing of our dad, Reg Hoole, of Victoria BC. He passed away at Broadmead Care on June 7, 2025, with family by his side.

Pre-deceased by his parents Patrick and Margery Hoole; Reg is survived by his former spouse, Gail, and their children Angela (Darnell) Getz, Alexander (Lindsey) Hoole; his grandchildren Liam, Georgia, Abby, and Angus; as well as his brother Pat (Cheryl) and their family.

Growing up in the wonderful farming community of the Saanich Peninsula, Reg was a 1965 graduate of Claremont Secondary School and subsequently attended UVic and earned his B.Ed. degree and Teaching Certificate in 1972. He was a great lover of sports, mainly rugby, volleyball, wallyball, tennis, track & field, cycling, swimming and dancing. His time as a rugby player earned him a spot in the UVic Sports Hall of Fame as their 1970/1971 team won the Vikes first Rounsefell Cup in team history, their fourth consecutive Barnard Cup, and the Pacific Northwest Intercollegiate conference title. He fondly reflected on his friendships made there, and the opportunity to travel with his team to Europe. Following his first teaching job at George Bonner Jr. Secondary, Reg went on to work as a secondary school Counsellor, Teacher, and Coach at Wellington and Dover Bay in Nanaimo.

Reg made many close and dear friends through the VICE Squad Cobra Club, Vintage Racing, and local car shows. He loved his neighbors in both Qualicum and Victoria and cherished his time with his many teammates, friends, students, and teaching colleagues.

After retiring from teaching, Reg returned to the family farm near Elk Lake. He loved time with his grandchildren on the farm and so loved the animals, especially the close bond with his border collies, Kim and Jock.

Many nights shared with friends and family around a fire, at the beach with an ice cream, a neighborhood party, going for a drive in a vintage car on a sunny day, sharing in one of his wonderful hugs, playing sports with his friends, working on projects at the farm, and of course his jokes. These are a few ways we will always remember him.

We are grateful for the loving care and support that Reg received from the caregivers and staff at Broadmead Lodge; they ensured the final years of his life were dignified and comfortable.

Safe travels dear Dad. You were and will always be so loved.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory are welcomed at Broadmead Care, Parkinson's Society of BC, 4-H and Kidsport BC.

A future date for a gathering will be planned. To receive details, RSVP to: reg.hoole.rsvp@gmail.com
