ATKINSON, John M. (Jack)

We are sad to announce the sudden passing at home of our beloved husband, father, & Papa on February 5th, 2009.
Jack was born in Ladysmith, and remained here all his life. Upon graduation he worked in logging camps, and then became a longshoreman in 1949. He was a foreman for Empire Stevedoring for many years, and remained on the waterfront until his retirement in 1991. He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Alice Atkinson. He is survived by, and will be sadly missed by his wife and love of his life Ruth, sons Gary (Wendy), Dale (Shanley) of Ladysmith, daughter Karen (Bill) of Shawnigan Lake, grandchildren: Murray (Rieko), Gwen (Brad), Brooks, Jesse, Jaysen, and Abby, great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Braden, and Noah, loving sister Wilma (Bill) Thompson of Pender Harbour, sister-in-law Vera May of Duncan, brother-in-law Gerry Brooks of Cedar, and many nieces and nephews. Jack was an avid outdoorsman and cherished his time with his family. A Celebration of his Life will be held on Sunday, February 15th, at 2:00 PM, at the Eagles Hall, 1st Avenue, Ladysmith.
