December 23, 1929 - May 8, 2022
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of John (Jack) James Baker on May 8, 2022. Jack was born in High River, Alberta on December 23, 1929.
Our family lost our rock and there are no words to describe how broken we feel. He was always there for his family and friends, always told it how he saw it, never minced words and always was there to support us. We will miss you everyday.
We will live our lives hearing your voice when making a decision, hoping to do right by you as you are looking down on us. Heaven is a better place with you there, and we are better having had you guide us down here. We love you and will cherish our memories of you always.
Betty and Jack, together, were known in Nanaimo for their hard work and dedication to social justice causes. They were awarded a Life Time Membership to the New Democratic Party in recognition of the many decades of hard work. They not only talked the talk but walked the walk when it came to their beliefs.
For many years every Thursday, Dad served breakfast at the local 710 club and in the afternoon, drove with Mom for Meals on Wheels. This was known in the family as their "road to heaven" day.
For 58 years, their home on Churchill Ave, was always a welcoming hub for family, friends and neighbours. We all have so many memories of great times shared together. Jack was predeceased by his loving wife Betty, their son Bobby, and his eight brothers and sisters.
Missing him, are his 2 daughters Susan (Bob) and Jennifer (Rob); Grandchildren Darrin (Leanna), David, Nadine and Chris, Mike, Jennifer, Dana, Dusty. Great Grandchildren, Alix (Auburn), Kyle, Alyssa, Owen, Jordan, Lotte, Brandon, Luca, Zoe and Isaac; Great Great Grandchildren, Kayden, Kolson, Zander and Lakelyn.
