John (Jack) SERJEANT

July 1, 2016

Herbert Jack passed away peacefully on July 1st, 2016 at the age of 87. He left this world surrounded by his loving children and was predeceased by the love of his life and mother of his three children, Frances. Jack was ill for the last few months and was lovingly cared for by his children. Born and raised in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, he joined the Navy in his early years and fell in love with Vancouver Island, moving his family here in 1956. He worked at many jobs, including being both the icemaker and manager of the rst Campbell River Curling Rink. He also worked at Elk Falls Pulp Mill, Nanaimo Water Board, and the Department of Highways before retiring. His love for sports was evident – he was an avid curler and the manager of the Tigerettes fastball team. Jack was a man of many talents. He was instrumental in the establishment of the cresting and sportswear business Creative Crests, which he founded with Frances. He continued on in his later years with his love of sewing by making many treasured quilts for his family and donating over 100 quilts to the Nanaimo Hospital Thrift Store. Jack was also a proud Mason and a Past Master of Ashlar Lodge #3. His mischief, kindness, and his quilts are what his family and friends will remember most. Jack is survived by his children, Jo-Ina (Vince), Murray (Toshiko), and Holly (Richard); grandchildren, Brandon (Jessica), Harmony (Dan), Rina, Montana, and Marina; and great grandchildren, Rena, Layton, Quinn, Garner, and Layla. Jack’s family would like to thank the entire Health Care Team for the wonderful care they provided. As per his wishes, no service will be held.
