PATTERSON, John Henry

Celebrating a life lived!

John Henry Patterson, Harry, as he was known by, died April 3, 2005, in Nanaimo General Hospital, after a battle with complications of pneumonia.

He was born April 1,1924 in Nanaimo at McCree's Nursing Home, located at 512 Albert Street. His Aunt Mag was one of the nurses that attended his birth. The house still stands to this day. Harry, right from high school, apprenticed at R H Ormond in Nanaimo, to become a sheet metal worker. He and a friend opened their own sheet metal and heating business in Port Alberni and continued to run that for several years. After closing it, he worked for and retired from Pacific Sheet Metal located in Nanaimo. He married in 1974 only to lose his wife, Bev, to cancer after 8 years of marriage. He never married again. Harry was an avid golfer and continued golfing 2 - 3 times a week in the spring, summer and fall months. His golf partners of many years will have an empty seat in the golf cart. His brother George, 2 sister-in-laws, 5 nieces and nephews and their families and many loving friends survive John Henry. He will be fondly remembered by all of them! We would like to thank the 4th floor staff of Nanaimo General Hospital and Dr. R. Jance van Rensburg from the Nanaimo Medical Arts Clinic. Their support and kindness was appreciated. Honouring Harry’s wishes, there will be no services. Memorial donations may be made to The Canadian Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.ca or by calling 1-800-665-6526.
