JOHN WILLIS

Willis was born in Vancouver, BC on February 14, 1931; moved to Northfield area, Nanaimo, BC in 1937; passed away peacefully in Royal Jubilee Hospital on November 21, 2009. Willis is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Kathleen, his three children: Karen, Lawrie (Michelle) and Michael (Sharla); his grandchildren: Kyle, Anne-Marie, John, Colton and Kaylea; his sister Barbara (Ernest) Winkelmann; and brother Ronald. Willis was predeceased by his brothers: Terry and Raymond.


Willis was very active in the community including, Past President of the Chamber of Commerce and Nanaimo Rotary Club, Past President and founder of Upper Island Truck Association, Past Commodore of Nanaimo Yacht Club, member of Nanaimo Mason and Nanaimo Shrine. Willis received the certificate of recognition in 1999 for his dedicated service to the citizens of Nanaimo. He was known for his generosity in providing young sports teams with uniforms as well as volunteering for many organizations in the community.


A memorial celebration will be held on Sunday, November 29, 2009 at Telford’s Chapel, 595 Townsite Road, Nanaimo at 1p.m. A Tea will be held from 2-4 p.m. at Nanaimo Yacht Club, 400 Newcastle Ave. Nanaimo.
