John Douglas McMillan passed away peacefully on January 9, 2015 at the age of 99 in Nanaimo with his family at his side. Doug was born in Melfort, SK on October 28, 1915 to John Alexander and Annie Marie (Brown) McMillan.  He resided in Regina, SK, Saskatoon, SK, North Bay, ON and, for the past 34 years, in Nanaimo, BC. Doug was predeceased by Jean, his loving wife of 57 years, in 2003 and by his sister Norma Graham. He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory his children Bill McMillan of Nanaimo, Jack McMillan of Victoria, Jane Dickinson (Harley) of Saskatoon and Margaret Smith (Glenn) of Abbotsford; his grandchildren John Dickinson of Saskatoon, Sarah-Jane Walker (Eric) of Saskatoon, Graham Smith and Devon Smith of Vancouver and Gavin McMillan of Nanaimo;  his sister Wilma Ballantyne of Calgary;  his nieces Donna Taylor (John), Pat Cameron (Steve) and Gail Corrigal (Reid).

In October, 1941 Doug volunteered for the RCAF. While posted overseas he met Jean Moore, a graduate of U of Glasgow (Art) and Jordan Hill Teachers College. She was teaching art in Glasgow schools at the time they met. They were married on October 17, 1945, settled in Saskatchewan and shared an unending love. Doug attended U of S (BA Biology) and U of T (BSW and Diploma of Hospital Admin). He spent most of his career as Hospital Administrator at Saskatoon City Hospital and North Bay Psychiatric Hospital.  Doug volunteered for many organizations.He was a founding member of the MS Society (North Bay and Nanaimo) and of the Hospice Society (Nanaimo). He was a dedicated Rotarian for over 50 years. Doug was very proud of his grandchildren and was an amazing role model for his entire family. His love, guidance and sense of humour will be dearly missed. Donations in Doug’s memory may be made to Nanaimo Community Hospice (1080 St. George Crescent, Nanaimo, BC V9S 1X1).  Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 10:00 am at Berwick on the Lake, 3201 Ross Road, Nanaimo, BC.  Rev.
