John Colyn

July 23, 1932 - June 9, 2022
In Loving Memory ~
Our beloved John Colyn passed peacefully in the early evening of June 9th 2022. Born on July 23rd 1932 in Haarlem, Netherlands, where he lived until immigrating to Port Alberni with his parents and 4 of his siblings in 1952. He became a proud Canadian citizen in 1958 and worked as a Pastor, Tradesman, and Carpenter. John graduated with a Diploma in Theology from Northwest Baptist Theological College where he met Viola (Harder). They married in 1962.
Predeceased by his parents, Henrik and Mieni Marietha, and siblings Henk, Robert and Marietha. He
is survived by his wife Viola, children, Marita (George), Tannis (Jim), Kevin (Jodi), 8 grandchildren, Makayla, Melynda, Joel, Carl, Mattaya, Elyse, Ben, Taylor and siblings, Claire, Bertha, and Peter.
He was a devout Christian and an active member of Departure Bay Baptist Church and First Baptist Church. He will be remembered, by all who had the joyous pleasure of knowing him, as a kind generous man, who helped anyone in need. His infectious laughter, puns, jokes, and warm smile lives on forever in our hearts. We are comforted he now resides in his eternal home.
There will be a Celebration of Life July 23, 2022 at First Baptist Church Nanaimo.
