Van Lieshout, Johannes

It is with great sadness we announce the loss of our beloved husband, father and opa Johannes Van Lieshout at the age of 82 years.

Born in Tilburg, Netherlands on March 08, 1929, he finally laid down his carpentry tools on March 28, 2011 to be with the Lord, his mother, father and family.

John leaves Alice, his loving wife of 58 years; daughter Cornelia (Marcus); sons, John (Susan) and Jack (Ya). John will also be missed by grandchildren: Aron (Janine), Niko (Pam), Alex and Dale; and special friends, Jesmine, Lizzie, Pixie and Shandi. In the Netherlands he leaves behind brother, sisters and special friends.

Dad brought his family to Canada in 1968 leaving the Netherlands in search of a better life and more opportunities for his children. John was committed to his wife, family and work. All his life he worked hard at many kinds of jobs, but his favorite was woodwork. John left behind many samples of his creativity both in Canada and across the sea. His last place of employment was with the Catholic Pastoral Centre in Victoria. He was respected and well liked and always ready to help when asked. We will miss him very much but cherish the special memories we have of him.

Special thanks to Dr. K Houghton, the Home Care nurses, Cancer Clinic doctors and nurses, and the staff of the NRGH Palliative Care Unit who lovingly cared for Dad at the end of his life.

A Memorial Service, to celebrate John’s life, will be held on Tuesday, April 5 at 2 pm at Telford’s Funeral Home, 595 Townsite Road. Nanaimo.
