In Loving Memory ~
We are heartbroken to announce that Jocelan Karley passed away on November 18th, 2021.
Born Thelma Joyce Kangas in Sudbury, Ontario, she was raised by her parents, beloved Vilho and Bertha. At the age of 17, she moved to Nanaimo, BC with family. She later married Gordon V. Henschke and together they lovingly raised their family of three boys. Years later, with the end of their marriage, she was looking for a new start and decided to change her name.
Following her love of music, adventure and desire to learn, she traveled extensively to many exotic locations, meeting friends and learning new cultures along the way. At the age of 42, she began her nursing career at Nanaimo General Hospital and later worked in the Emergency Dept. at St Paul's Hospital in Vancouver. Her outgoing nature allowed her to strike up new conversations and meet many people who later became lifelong friends. Along with her passionate, generous nature, her wonderful sense of humor had an impact on many. Revered and loved, it was frequently said, "Jocelan was like a Mother to me."
Survived by sons Gary and Dean (Liane), Granddaughters Sarah (Kai) and Kelsey. She was predeceased by her eldest son, Glen. Jocelan was so proud of her Granddaughters & thankful to have had them in her life. Her unique and positive ways benefited many from knowing her but especially if you received one of her comforting and loving hugs.
Nana, you are dearly missed!
