Joan Mary McArthur, 86 of Cardston, Alberta, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2023 with her family by her side.
She was born October 4, 1936 in London England. As a child Joan survived the blitzkrieg in WWII in London England. During her teen years she worked in her family's restaurant, The Prospect of Whitby and in a textile factory.
At the time, her favorite sports were roller skating and swimming. She moved to Canada when she was in her 20s to establish her life on the West Coast.
During her time in Nanaimo BC, Joan was involved with the NDP, Nanaimo City Cloggers, Nanaimo Square dancing and Branch 256 Legion. While she was raising her children, she was an Avon, Mary Kay and Fashion 220 consultant. She also worked as a Nanny and cleaned homes and office buildings on the weekends.
When Joan retired she moved to Cardston, Alberta. She loved the Town of Cardston and made many friends. She was a valued member of the United Church Choir and the Legion. Her hobbies included card making, knitting and nature walks.
Joan is survived by her six children: Teresa Polson, Neil Lewis, Terisa Bilton, Annette Bright, Robert King, Lori King and several grandchildren/great grandchildren whom she adored, also Brothers in England. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
