Jeanne Gregoria Frances Elizabeth Pelletier nee Storey

November 5, 1933 - October 31, 2022
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Jeanne Gregoria Frances Elizabeth Pelletier. Jeanne passed away quietly and peacefully at Nanaimo Hospital, surrounded by family and loved ones. Jeanne was 88 years old.
Jeanne was born in Vancouver to Sara and Frank Storey. Jeanne spent her early days in Quatsino, Kildonin and Port Alberni, growing up alongside her brother Preston, and sister Joy. When Jeanne was seven, the family moved to Esquimalt B.C. Jeanne attended St Ann's Academy in Victoria and later Sprott Shaw College. Her education led her to administrative work at the Parliament buildings in Victoria.
In 1952 (on an initial "blind date") Jeanne met the love of her life Valmond Pelletier. The feelings were mutual as they married two years later at the Queen of Peace Church in Esquimalt. Jeanne and Val began raising a family, welcoming four children between 1955 and 1962. With Val being a member of the Royal Canadian Navy, Jeanne spent many months at a time, caring for their four children while her husband was at sea.
Apart from a two year posting in Matsqui, B.C., the Pelletier family lived in Esquimalt until 1969 when they relocated to Nanaimo. They created a loving, inviting, social home in the Departure Bay area where they continued to raise their family and welcomed the arrival of their fifth child.
Jeanne was active in her community and became involved with the Catholic Women's League in Nanaimo, where she was president for a period of time. She was recently described by a long time member as a "mover and shaker" who got things done with the League. The family later attended St Michael's Ukrainian Parish in the late 1980's and Jeanne was an active member regularly participating in the monthly perogy dinners, spending countless hours making cabbage rolls and perogies to help support the church.
For 61 years Jeanne was a devoted and loving wife to Val who passed away in 2016. She was a selfless, dedicated and sacrificing mother, grandmother and great grandmother who never failed to lead by example. She and Val led their family on many memorable trips to the Prairies and throughout Vancouver Island to visit family.
Jeanne and Val were well known for their hospitality whether it be hosting family events, neighbourhood parties or just having the fun home to congregate for their children and their friends. Aside from her life long love of knitting, she was a gifted gardener. If you knew the family when they lived on Departure Bay Road, you'll recall the beautiful yard that was admired daily by those visiting or travelling by their home.
Several people close to Jeanne, have recently shared stories of how she was a second mom to them. She taught them to cook, bake, host and how to show affection and love.
Jeanne is predeceased by her mother and father, Sarah and Frank, brother Preston, sister Joy, sisters in law Roxane Skelton and Caroline Storey, brothers in law Murray Skelton and Normand Pelletier, nephews Pierre and Brian Pelletier, and niece Michelle Pelletier. Jeanne leaves behind her five children: Rachelle, Marc, Romaine (Gil), Cal (Jennifer), Matthew (Rosanne); her ten grandchildren: Tyler (Lauren), Amanda, Leona (Michael), Jesse (Heather), Joel (Alesha), Jordie (Alicia), Justin, Carly (Armando), Bryden (Heather), and Nova (Travis). Great grandchildren are Benjamin, Hunter, Colton, Xavier, Eva, Kashton, Hayes, Brookes, Levi and Bennett. Jeanne was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her 11th great grandchild in December. What started as a blind date in 1952 has evolved into a large, loving and lasting legacy.
By the time Jeanne's youngest child was ten, she was welcoming her first grandchild into the world. She was instrumental in raising her ten grandchildren. Children were an integral part of her life. Simply put, Jeanne was the mom, grandma and great grandma that every child deserves.
Jeanne was treasured by her large family, many friends, and will be sorely missed. She leaves the world a better place, through her family, kindness and wonderful sense of humour.
A funeral service will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 7, 2023. A very special thanks to the many staff at Kiwanis Village and more recently Keeping House for taking care of our mom over these past few years. Also thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and staff at Nanaimo Hospital who cared for our mom and helped make her final days more comfortable.
