Jean Marguerite Nicks (nee Hammer) passed away in her 90th year.  She was the loving mother of Tom (Judy) of Nanaimo, Douglas (Lise Goyette) of Deep River, Ont., Gord (Lee Sanger) of Vancouver and Susan (Gary Brow) of Maple Ridge. Grandmother to Jason, Jeff, Dan, Tim, Dixie, Brad and Kim.  Great Grandmother to Jared, Taylor, Jake, Nathan, Riley, Benjamin and Heidi.   Jean was predeceased by her loving husband Robert H Nicks in 2004; and long best friend Nora Paterson in 2013.

Jean was born in Trail in 1925 and was raised in Nelson where she was celebrated as an athlete and musician.  She was a Register Nursing Graduate from the Royal Columbian Hospital, New Westminster in 1947. She was married in Victoria in 1948 where she worked at Royal Jubilee Hospital.  They moved up island to Mill Bay and lived there10 years with their young family. She received a BC Centennial award from the B.C Premier for Community Service in 1958.  They moved to Nanaimo in 1963 where she worked many years at NRGH and then Kiwanis Village Lodge.  Jean spent many hours knitting and crocheting many innovative creations that are cherished by her family and those charities that she generously gave them away to.  She will be missed but not forgotten.
