April 29, 1958 - May 31, 2020
Janice Marie Skipsey (nee Edwards) passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on May 31st, 2020 after a brief illness.
She is survived by her husband David, daughters Katherine (Miguel Nacenta) and Laura (Craig Horncastle), four grandchildren (Owen, Benson, Miguel, Ada), and sisters Jude (Don Staffanson) and Susan.
Janice was born on April 29th 1958 in Regina, SK, grew up in Saskatoon, SK before moving to Victoria in 1977. She graduated from the Victoria Conservatory of Music and was an accomplished pianist and teacher, with Mozart being her favourite composer to play after she thought the kids had gone to sleep.
After marrying David in August 1980, they spent the next 40 years living on the BC coast; first in Victoria, then raising their family in Port McNeill, Sechelt, and finally Nanaimo in 1994, and traveling to Hawaii, Europe, and Tofino.
Professionally, Janice was a dedicated piano teacher for 42 years, a member of the BCRMTA, and served as president of her local branch. Always generous with her spare time, Janice played for church services and children's choirs, volunteered with Girl Guides of Canada, and cared for her mother-in-law Mary and father Brian in their final years. In her free time, she enjoyed the Chemainus Theatre, Friday Night Coffee, and being surrounded by the chaos of her family in her beautiful home. Although always a prairie girl at heart, Janice loved skiing at Mount Washington and watching the waves on the West Coast. Janice was a devoted mother and wife, a kind and generous friend, and an inspiring teacher. She was the centre of her family's world and her loss is devastating.
