It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of John Garenkooper on October 14th at Nanaimo Regional Hospital following complications from a short illness.
John was devoted to many service and social organizations. He was an essential part of the local Anglican community, the annual Salvation Army Kettle Drive and the poppy drive for Remembrance Day.
John also contributed to the Tsow-Tun-Le-Lum Society, assisting with various community programs. He served as a school trustee for many years and was a member of the 808 Thunderbird Wing RCAFA and Royal Canadian Legion 257.
John is preceded in death by his wife Marie-Louise Garenkooper.
Survived by his daughter Gina Garenkooper, his sister Jenny Popma and the rest of the Popma family. Also, the Theodore, deVere and Stender families and other family members and neighbours who remember John for the remarkable man that he was.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:30pm Saturday, November 16, 2024 at St. Philip by-the-Sea Church in Lantzville, BC. Please bring a smile, finger food to enjoy and a story.
