James Stewart Nicolson

1925 – 2014

We are saddened to announce Jim’s death in Nanaimo, on February 24th, from Alzheimer’s.

He was predeceased by his much loved wife, Joan in 2005. Jim will be missed by his daughters, Patricia Punnett (Victoria) and Janet Saunders (Nanaimo); sons-in-law, Jon Punnett and Bob Saunders; cherished grandchildren: Elizabeth Punnett, Hilary Punnett, James Saunders and Gareth Saunders; and great-granddaughter, Amara Garcia.

Jim grew up in Winnipeg where he and Joan were married in 1950. All his working life was spent in the CN Passenger Claims Department (Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Edmonton). He retired to Victoria in 1980 and relocated to Nanaimo in 1991.

Jim was a mason (Scottish Rites) and a life long member of the Presbyterian Church. He loved reading about the railway history of Western Canada and was fond of military band music. He was a founding member of the Rutherford ‘Hearts in Motion’ walking group.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers at Nanaimo Seniors Village, where Jim resided for the last 4 years.

Donations, in Jim’s memory, may be made to your local SPCA.
