James Russell McLeod, born Nov. 2, 1920 in Selkirk, Manitoba passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 20, 2009. It was Russ’ wish to fight his final battle with cancer at home and so with his family gathered around him he passed safely into the arms of his Lord to his eternal rest. We will very much miss his kind heart, loving words of endearment, war stories and funny jokes. Russ was a WWII veteran serving with the 3rd Division of the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. He was proud to have served his country in England, France, Belgium, Germany, and the liberation of Holland. He remained a proud and loyal veteran all his life. Russ was predeceased by his parents Ernest and Beatrice McLeod and his 4 siblings, Helen, George, Edward and Evelyn.Russ is survived by his wife, Bea and children Kathy (Art), Curt, and Bruce (Gayle). He was predeceased by his eldest son, Doug (Lorraine) in 2002. He also leaves to mourn his passing 11 grandchildren, Brad (Jean), Belinda (Rob), Scott (Bonnie), Sean (Amarens), Krista (Derrick), Grant (Anna), Rob, David (Stacey), Teresa (Matt), Ryan (Heather), and Brent (Alissa) along with 17 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held for Russ at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Nanaimo, on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. If you so desire donations may be made in Russ’ memory to the BC Cancer Society or St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church memorial fund.
