JAMES (Jimmy) KAREL YANDA

Born July 10, 1920 in Klatovy Czech Republic. Died November 1, 2010 at NRGH.

Jimmy immigrated to Canada with his parents in 1929. Predeceased by parents Vaclav and Stepha Yanda. Survived by his loving wife Patricia (Pat), sons Bruce (Einy) and Brian (Margie). Granddad to Jason, Carmen and Alex; great grandchildren Keesha, Adam, Talon and Natalia.

Jimmy worked at a young age on the water digging clams and then worked for Nanaimo Towing. Jimmy joined the Canadian Forces in WWII and while over in England he transferred into the Royal Air Force and flew with the Czech Air Force, flying with the Coastal Command as a Navigator/Gunner.

During the war he met the love of his life Patricia, and married her in 1943 in England. After the war Jimmy moved back to Nanaimo working as a commercial fisherman, then as a long shoreman until retirement in 1982. Boating, camping, hunting and fishing were his true joy; he also spent many hours working at his rockwork lapidary at Jonanko Club. He will be missed, but never forgotten by his wife, family and friends.

“Dad’s gone fishing. Have a beer for him.”

Private family gathering at a later date. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
