LEASK, JAMES ARTHUR (Art)

March 13, 1924 ~ September 13, 2010

After a 5 year struggle with glandular cancer, Art passed away September 13, 2010, at the George Derby Centre for Veterans, in Burnaby. Art was born in Nanaimo and was a grandson of Harewood pioneers James & Isabella Leask. They had purchased five acres of land in Harewood before leaving Shetland Islands approximately 1880. Art graduated from Harewood School in 1942, and joined the Air Force (Squadron #406) He trained as an aero engine mechanic and continued as a general mechanic after the war. In 1968, Art married the love of his life, Frances Mount, and instantly became a step-dad to Fran's 13 year old daughter, Barbara.

Art was predeceased by his parents: Percy & Agnes Leask, of Harewood. Art is survived by his loving wife, Fran; step daughter, Barbara Mount and Fran's niece, Bonnie Smallenberg and husband, of Kelowna. He is also survived by his sister, Isobel McDonald and husband Ross, of Nanaimo, and their 3 daughters: Heather Boies and husband, Larry, of Bothell, Washington, and their children, Sarah & Aaron; Janet Hosokawa and husband, Richard, of Victoria, and their children: Bonnie, Valerie, Colin and Julie; Shirley Sywak and husband, Jerry, of Coquitlam and their children: Andrea, Dale and Lindy.

Art's service will be held at the George Derby Centre for Veterans, Cumberland Ave, Burnaby, Monday, September 27, 2010 at 1:30p.m.
