Jack Edmund Charmley

May 1930 - March 2016

Jack was born in Stettler, Alberta to parents Erma and Ambrose Charmley. Jack passed away peacefully on March 24, six weeks shy of his 86th birthday, surrounded by his family.

Jack’s career was long and multi-faceted. In 1962 Jack was hired as a Journeyman Electrician at M&B’s Harmac where he started a career that spanned 29 years. Jack enjoy the people he worked with and formed many lasting friendships.

Jack did many things in his life but time spent on the MV Sea Charmer, with wife Elaine, cruising the waters of coastal B.C. were the best. Jack was a 48 year member of Nanaimo Yacht Club, serving as Commodore in 1973 & 1974. Jack was recognized for his contributions to the club with Honorary Life Membership. Jack also served as Commander of Nanaimo Power Squadron in 1969/70 and a District Commander in 1978/79. Jack volunteered many hours passing on his knowledge and passion for safe boating. His love of boating was also passed onto his children and grandchildren.

Jack was loved by many and will be missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elaine, daughter Kim (Bruce), son Kris (Valerie), grandchildren Stacey (Tyler), Nicholas (Katie), Alisha (Cam) and Trevor (Chelsea), sister Erma (Dougall), brother Am (Grace), sister in law Karen (Ches), special friends Stan and Bernice Wardill and many more family and friends.

A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at the Nanaimo Yacht Club at 1:30 pm on, what would have been Jack’s 86th birthday, May 5, 2016.
