March 3, 1950 - June 3, 2017

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Irene Janet Lonie, 67, wife of the late Norman Robert Lonie, at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital on June 3, 2017 from complications of COPD.

Irene was born in Kamloops, BC on March 3, 1950. She grew up in a few different places in BC throughout her childhood. For most of her adult life she resided in Nanaimo with her loving husband Norman where she devoted herself to raising their family. After Norman passed away she relocated to Ladysmith for several years. She enjoyed the time she volunteered at the Ladysmith Auxiliary Thrift store for close to ten years meeting with all the regulars and the great team she worked with. She loved the “bag” sales herself and would often come home with a bag full of new treasures. She was proud of the work and how the proceeds went to the hospitals. With recent health issues she was no longer able to volunteer and moved to Cedar to live with her family for the past two years.

Irene had endless love for all her cherished 4-legged companions that she cared for throughout her life, and recently enjoyed the company of GSD Quinley. She valued the commitment of family, was generous, never forgot a birthday or holiday, would always extend a hand when needed, was committed to keeping up with the News and loved a good laugh!

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Tammy (Doug) Scholey, Teryle (Rick) Hyne, granddaughters Tanisa, Shayann, great-grandson Danver, her brothers Reg, Tim, step-brother Gary and all her nephews, nieces and family.

Irene was predeceased by her husband Norman in 2004, father Reginald Warner and mother Janet Sather, sister Cecily and brother-in-law Ken Hein and nephew Ronnie Warner.

After almost 13 years our Mom and Dad are once again reunited and together forever.

A Celebration of Life get-together will be held in her honour for family and friends on Sunday, July 16th from 1-4 pm at the North Oyster Community Hall, 13467 Cedar Rd.

Thank you to Dr. Oberholster for your care and compassion over the years and also to the Central Drugs (Beban) Pharmacy team for the years of great service.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the SPCA if desired.

Those we love don’t go away, They walk beside us every day, Unseen, unheard, but always near, Still loved, still missed and very dear.
