With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Irene (Mendiuk) Freeman of Nanaimo BC, formerly of Edmonton AB. Our loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all those whose lives she touched, passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2021. She was in her 85th year.
Irene was predeceased by her youngest son, Jonathan Freeman, and step grandsons Dillen and Colton Poste. Irene was also predeceased by her parents, Pauline (Kurylo) and William Mendiuk, brother Orest (Florence) Mendiuk, sister Mary (Paul) Rohatynski, and leaves behind her brother John (Diane) Mendiuk, sister Emily (Lawrence) Stelmack, sister Elizabeth (Fred) Christ as well as many family members and friends.
She will be greatly missed by her loving family, husband Ron, children Deborah (Michael) Harrington, Yvonne McCartney, Joanne (Rick) Friedl, and Dennis (Judy Kirk) Freeman as well as grandchildren; Richard (Tiffanie) Harrington, Jennifer (Jerry) Dayman, Kenneth (Joy) Harrington, Makena (James Edge) McCartney, Duier McCartney, James (Hayley) Freidl, Alex Friedl, Nicole Friedl, Shaeleigh and Jocelyn Freeman, step grandsons Steven & Branden Briere, Saxon Newbold-Freeman, Elle and Kieran Freeman, and Great grandchildren; Carter, Kaden, Quentin, Parker, Tristan, Abbigail & Sebastian.
We wish to thank the medical & Palliative care staff at Nanaimo General Hospital and First Memorial Services in Nanaimo. Private family gathering and blessing will be held in Edmonton, AB. Irene's ashes will be placed in a niche at the Holy Cross Cemetery & Mausoleum in Edmonton, AB.
No formal funeral service by her request.
