June 3, 1925 - May 27, 2021
With great sadness we announce the passing of Irene Crawley on May 27, 2021.
Mom was born June 3, 1925 in Rochdale, England and lived there until 1957 when she emigrated to Canada with 3 young children in tow. Our dad had come out 4 months earlier to get settled. She made the journey on a ship that took 8 days, alone with 3 children heading to a new country, where previously she had never left the north of England.
Mom and Dad settled in Burlington, Ontario for many years before deciding to move to BC in 1967. They had two more children by this time and settled in Prince Rupert for a year. Our dad was always looking for new horizons so they moved again to Victoria, then after a few years settled in Nanaimo.
She missed her sister terribly and it was 21 years before they saw each other again. Their love and devotion endured and they were reunited many times over the years following. Joyce (sister) died 2 months before mom.
Mom was a gentle soul that always saw the best in people. Her family was so very important to her and gave her a sense of pride. When mom laughed she lit up the room. She laughed a lot and would at times break out in song with the old tunes of her youth.
Mom was predeceased by her husband Arnold in 2014, and leaves behind her children Lynn, Eileen (Don), Gillian (Al), Danny, Garry (Melissa), 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
A luminous light remains where a beautiful soul has passed.
Mom will always be with us in our hearts, and our memories of her are precious gifts that will remain with us forever. A small family gathering will be held at a later date.
