Ingvar Hedman

May 11, 1924 ~ February 20, 2011

Ingy died peacefully at Travellers Lodge, Sunday, February 20, 2011. He is predeceased by his wife, Evelyn (Hills) and survived by his daughters: Linda Shorrock (Ken) and Margie Yanda (Brian); and his three grandchildren: Jennifer (Darren), Cheryl (Rick) and Alex.

Ingy was born on May 11, 1924 in Sweden and immigrated at the age of 3 to Port Alberni. Ingy was very involved in sports; from a young age and throughout his life he remained passionate about track and field and basketball. In later years he coached with the Nanaimo Track and Field Club and officiated at many Canadian Track Meets. During World War II he served in the Canadian Tank Brigade. Following the war, he met and married Evelyn. Ingy loved to work his entire life. His work with M&B Logging took him from Port Alberni Sawmill to Harmac Woodroom #3 to the Chemainus Sawmill. After retiring from the mill he helped people and family with yard work and handyman jobs. When anyone needed help with a construction project he was always there to help. The last four years of his life he resided at Travellers Lodge Nanaimo. We would like to thank them for all their hard work caring for him.

There will be no service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Travellers Lodge.
