Inez Mary Thompson (Holmen)

Mom passed away peacefully surrounded by family at home in Nanaimo on August 17, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mom was born on August 28th 1932 on her family’s farm in Sedalia, Alberta, the youngest of 3 children. She grew up on the family farm and married the love of her life, our dad, Syd in 1954. Dad’s work with the railway moved them to Springwater, Saskatchewan, where they had their first child, Gary. A couple years later they moved to Nanaimo, where their daughter Gayle was born.

Mom and Dad retired in Campbell River where they enjoyed many happy years of camping, fishing, travelling, gardening and golfing. Mom loved to play her organ and accordion and could play any song by ear. Adding to her talents, she was an amazing cook, baker and scrabble player. Her favourite times were spent with her cherished family and dear friends.

She was a caring and loving wife to our dad who passed away in 2008. She was also a wonderful Mom, Gramma and Great- Gramma. She is survived by her son Gary Thompson (Gail), her daughter Gayle McLeod (Bruce), her grandchildren Teresa (McLeod), Coleman (Matt), Ryan McLeod (Heather), Curtis Thompson, Karen Thompson (Cameron Williams), her sweet great grandchild Callie Coleman, her sister Mildred Anderson (Dick) and many nieces and nephews.

She touched so many people’s lives with her sweet, caring and loving nature and will forever be in our hearts.

Our family would like to thank Dr. Spry and the home care nurses for all their support.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, August 23 2011 at 11:00am at the First Memorial Chapel, 1720 Bowen Road, Nanaimo.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
